TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono stated that the city administration had prepared several alternative housings for former residents of Kampung Bayam. These are low-cost flats, locally known as rusun, in Nagrak, Pasar Rumput, and Tanah Pasir.
“I gave several alternatives, it could be in Nagrak, Pasar Rumput, or Tanah Pasir which already exist,” Heru said in Ciracas, East Jakarta, on Friday, January 26, 2024.
The Presidential Secretariat Head said that the government would rebuild the flats and allow residents to choose one of the three. He claimed that the alternative housing had been discussed with the Development Assistant or Aspam since November 2023.
He explained that the decision was made after considering the aspirations of the public and the city-owned developer PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) as the building owner. Jakpro, he added, is obliged to run the company according to the regulations and ensure its accountability.
Former residents of Kampung Bayam are being denied permission to occupy Kampung Susun Bayam (KSB), which was built during Anies Baswedan’s governorship. The apartment located near the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) was intended for them as they were relocated for the stadium construction project.
Former residents of Kampung Bayam claimed that they had been given the right to occupy KSB after the apartment’s inauguration in October 2022. However, the city administration remained silent and refused to meet with the people. Mediation efforts with Jakpro have also been unsuccessful to date.
Jakpro had even reported four residents to the North Jakarta Police for committing violence against property, causing damage, and trespassing on someone else's land without proper permission under Article 170, Article 406, and Article 167 of the Criminal Code.
The KSB has now changed its name to JIS Operational Support Worker Housing (HPPO). Jakpro said that the HPPO JIS is part of the development of the Integrated Sports Area in North Jakarta. Kampung Bayam, which is now JIS, was previously an open area belonging to the Jakarta provincial government.
