TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice Presidential candidate number 3 Mahfud Md promises to improve the creative industry manpower sector if elected as vice president alongside presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo in upcoming general elections.
During the Tabrak, Prof! campaign event in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday evening, Mahfud Md claimed that the creative industry has working hour issues, such as the film industry.
"I have received complaints from several young people. For example, in their sector, film or soap opera crew has uncertain working hours," he said.
This condition, he went on, was exacerbated by the tardiness of the talents. "Meanwhile, the main soap opera actors often come [on the set] late. And while shooting, they suddenly ask permission to go," he explained.
According to Mahfud, the film crew is paid in packages one time for an uncertain shooting period. "The payment does not consider their working hours. For example, they are paid Rp1.5 million for a certain soap opera, that is the fixed rate no matter how many days they work," he added.
Thus, creative industry workers must be protected, Mahfud Md said.
The General Elections Commission or KPU has decided on the campaigning period ahead of the general elections conducted from November 28, 2023, to February 10, 2024. The general elections itself are slated for February 14.
