BPBD Jakarta Records Flooding in 30 Neighborhoods After Overnight Downpour

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Jakarta) recorded that over 30 neighborhoods are still flooding this morning at 07:00 a.m. local time. The head of BPBD Jakarta Isnawa Adji mentioned that the rain with medium to heavy intensity from Saturday to Sunday overnight caused the rise of status in a number of watergates across the province.
"It also caused water to pool in several areas in Jakarta," he said in a written statement on Monday, January 8.
According to Isnawa, the flood was caused by the heavy rain and overflows from the Ciliwung River and Pesanggrahan River. The flooding occurs in South Jakarta and East Jakarta.
Those flooding includes 11 neighborhoods in East Pejaten village and Pondok Pinang in South Jakarta and 9 neighborhoods in Cililitan, Cawang, Kampung Melayu, and Bidara Cina in East Jakarta.

Flooded neighborhoods: 4 neighborhoods
Water height: 30-75 centimeters
Cause: heavy rain and overflows from the Ciliwung River
Rawajati village
Flooded neighborhoods: 1 neighborhood
Water height: 30 centimeters
Cause: heavy rain and overflows from the Ciliwung River
Pondok Pinang village
Flooded neighborhoods: 6 neighborhoods
Water height: 50-60 centimeters
Cause: heavy rain and overflows from the Pesanggrahan River
East Jakarta
Cililitan village
Flooded neighborhoods: 3 neighborhoods
Water height air: 45-50 centimeters
Cause: heavy rain and overflows from the Ciliwung River
Cawang village
Flooded neighborhoods: 9 neighborhoods
Water height air: 30-180 centimeters
Cause: heavy rain and overflows from the Ciliwung River
Kampung Melayu village
Flooded neighborhoods: 3 neighborhoods
Water height air: 90 centimeters
Cause: heavy rain and overflows from the Ciliwung River

According to Iswana, there are no residents displaced from the flooding, while BPBD Jakarta has deployed personnel to observe the condition in each area.
"The floods are targeted to recede quickly," Iswana concluded.
