TEMPO.CO, Batam - Statistics Indonesia or BPS recorded that foreign tourist visits to Batam increased in November 2023, with a total of 100,866 visits. The number was an increase of 25.79 percent compared to October 2023, with 80,189 visits.
The November 2023 visit was also 25.04 percent higher compared to the same period in the previous year. The increase of foreign tourist influx in November 2023 to Batam was from Batam Center Ferry Port, Nongsa Pura Port, Ferry Harbour Bay Port, Sekupang International Port, and Internasional Airport Hang Nadim.
Singapore tourists dominate the foreign visit number
The BPS data also showed that the foreign tourists in Batam in November 2023 were mostly Singaporeans reaching 59.65 percent of the total foreign tourist number.
BP Batam Chief Muhammad Rudi appreciated the increase and said that they could achieve it thanks to the efforts of the government and BP Batam to accelerate the development of supporting infrastructure for the progress of the tourism sector.
"This is a positive signal for the economic revival of Batam. "We have to collectively maintain the achievement so that Batam's progress can be felt by all elements of society," he said on Friday, January 5.
In addition, the increase in foreign tourists also affected hotel occupancy in Riau Islands Province. According to BPS data, hotel occupancy in the province in November 2023 was an average of 60.91 percent or an increase of 17.08 percent compared to that in October 2023 at 43.83 percent.
“Economic enthusiasm will also rise with this increase. Hopefully, Batam's economy will continue to move rapidly in the future," he said.
