KAI Says Haurpugur-Cicalengka Line Is Accessible at Limited Speed after Bandung Train Collision

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia or KAI ensured that the railway connecting Haurpugur Station and Cicalengka Station had been cleared and trains can access the line at a limited speed of 20 kilometers per hour on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at 06:30 this morning.
KAI VP of Public Relations Joni Martinus said the first train passing the line was KA Cikuray ( KA.267) of the Garut–Pasarsenen route at 08:56.
“KAI would like to thank all stakeholders involved in the normalization process of the Haurpugur–Cicalengka railway. The line is now accessible at a limited speed. A number of improvements to the railway by strengthening the rail body continue to be carried out so that trains can operate at normal speeds again," said Joni in his statement quoted on Saturday, January 6, 2024.
About 200 personnel were involved in the evacuation process, comprising a team from KAI, KAI Commuter, West Java Transportation Ministry’s BTP, National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and other related parties. PT KAI used heavy machinery, such as 2 units of crane, 6 units of electric hydraulics, etc. As for railway repair, 100 pieces of rail bearings were used.
“KAI would like to apologize for the unexpected situation. "KAI and related parties continue to make efforts to normalize routes so that train trips can return to normal," said Joni.
PT KAI reported all passengers were safe from the train collision in Cicalengka, Bandung Regency at KM 181+700 of the Cicalengka-Haurpugur line on Friday, January 5, at 06:30. The accident involved two trains; KA Turangga and Bandung Metro local train.
