BPBD: 10 Houses Damaged in Sukabumi After 5.9M Earthquake

TEMPO.CO, Sukabumi - The Sukabumi Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) noted that several houses in Sukabumi Regency, West Java, were damaged as a result of the 5.9-magnitude earthquake centered in Bayah Regency, Banten, on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
“Ten houses suffered light to heavy damage as a result of the quake that occurred on Wednesday morning at around 07:53 WIB,” Sandra Fitria, a spokesperson for the Sukabumi BPBD, said in Sukabumi as quoted from Antara, on Wednesday.
In detail, the ten houses are located in Parungseah Village, Lembursawah Village, Babakanpanjang Village, Cihemarang Village, Mekarjaya Village, Hegarmanah Village, Loji Village, and Cicareuh Village.
According to Sandra, the assessment of buildings or facilities affected by the earthquake is still ongoing, so the number may increase.
The number of evacuated residents is also being calculated as well. Some have fled to the homes of their relatives. Losses are also being calculated. Sandra appealed to residents not to panic and to stay alert in anticipation of aftershocks.
