TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Finance Ministry allocated Rp71.2 trillion for the 2024 general elections, 20 months before the election.

"In 2022, the general elections budget has been realized for Rp3.1 trillion, while the government spent Rp29.9 trillion out of the allotted Rp30.4 trillion, so 98.4 percent has been realized. For 2024, we allotted Rp38.2 trillion for the general elections," said Finance Minister Sri Mulyani in a press conference on Tuesday in Jakarta.

The budget was spent around Rp26.1 trillion through the General Elections Commission or KPU and the General Elections Supervisory Agency or Bawaslu.

It was used to form ad-hoc agencies, draft general elections-related regulations, and the management, procure, report, and documentation of the logistics of the general elections.

The budget was also spent to conduct the nomination of presidential and vice presidential candidates and the nomination of house members.

In addition, Sri Mulyani said that the general elections budget is used to supervise the campaign and election period, update and manage the voters' list, decide the number of seats and regions, and supervise the logistics of the general elections.

Meanwhile, the government allotted Rp3.8 trillion for ministries and governmental agencies involved in the general elections rollout, 14 agencies in total.

"The budget is targeted mainly for the police, RRI, TVRI, Ministry of State Apparatus Utilization and Bureaucratic Reform, and Kominfo (Ministry of Communication and Informatics," Minister Sri Mulyani explained.

The minister explained that the budget is used, among others, for election security, handling any dispute that may arise, ensuring state apparatus neutrality during the election period, and information dissemination.
