TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) scheduled the second debate among vice presidential candidates for Friday, December 22, 2023.
The debate will focus on issues related to the economy, including the people's economy and the digital economy, finance, investment, taxation, trade, management of the national or regional budget, infrastructure, and urban areas. It will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in Central Jakarta and televised live.
Three vice presidential candidates: Muhaimin Iskandar or popularly known as Cak Imin, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Mahfud MD will be present to share their vision, mission, and ideas.
Cak Imin
Vice presidential candidate number 1, Muhaimin Iskandar alias Cak Imin, said on Tuesday, Dec. 19, that one of his preparations for the debate was to relearn the vision and mission of Anies Baswedan-Cak Imin (AMIN).
The House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker claimed that the economy constitutes over 60 percent of AMIN's vision and mission.
Gibran Rakabuming
Vice presidential candidate number 2, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, has also been preparing for the first vice presidential debate next Friday. Secretary of the Prabowo-Gibran National Campaign Team, Nusron Wahid, said that President Jokowi’s eldest son had been prepared to debate ever since the KPU set the date for presidential and vice presidential candidates.
The campaign team’s chairman Rosan Roeslani added that Gibran's background as Surakarta Mayor made him a strong candidate to debate on popular and urban economic issues.
Mahfud MD
Similar to Cak Imin and Gibran Rakabuming, Mahfud MD has made various preparations for the upcoming debate. Vice presidential candidate number 3 claimed that he has been reading newspapers about economic issues.
Mahfud MD, who serves as the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, also said he was ready to face off in the second debate ahead of the 2024 presidential election in February.
