TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Way Kambas National Park in East Lampung has been re-opened today, Wednesday, Dec. 20 after three years of closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Way Kambas National Park public relations Sukatmoko announced the re-opening of this tourist attraction in East Lampung, claiming the national park will implement a fresh concept without elephant attraction and elephant ride.
"Visitors are only allowed to see domesticated elephants, and for [direct] interaction we offer the washing elephant tourism package," he explained.
To protect elephants from pollution and empower residents, Sukatmoko said visitors cannot use private vehicles to see the elephants.
"Private vehicles are parked at the rest area and stop at the gate. Visitors will then be transported [to Way Kambas] using the vehicles prepared by the locals," he added.
Earlier, the Acting head of Way Kambas National Park Hermawan explained that Way Kambas will offer several new packages for tourists, namely jungle track, washing elephants, feeding elephants, and photo sessions.
The national park also integrates Way Kambas with the national park's buffer village tourism to employ locals.
To enter Way Kambas, the tickets are priced at Rp5,000 for domestic tourists on weekdays and Rp7,500 during holidays. Meanwhile, organizers set Rp100,000 for foreign tourists on weekdays and Rp150,000 during holidays. Other activities inside Way Kambas will have additional charges.
