7 Recommended Nature Tourism Sites in Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta is also home to scenic nature tourism destinations. If you are planning on spending the Christmas and New Year holidays in the bustling city, you might want to consider visiting some of the tourist sites that the city has to offer.

Here is the list of seven natural tourist sites in Jakarta that will provide you with an unforgettable experience and a chance to unwind amid the hustle and bustle of the megapolitan:

1. White Sand Beach PIK 2

This man-made beach in North Jakarta offers beautiful stretches of white sand and a serene sea view. Although swimming is prohibited, a visit to the beach is worth it to spend time relaxing and enjoying the view.

2. Thousand Islands 

This chain of islands just off the coast of Jakarta is a great destination for those who love snorkeling or diving. You can also hop from island to island in just one day. Some of the top islands are Bidadari Island, Onrust Island, Pramuka Island, Tidung Island, and Pari Island. Each offers various water sports activities such as banana boats, jet skiing, and canoeing.

3. Ancol Beach

This 6.5-kilometer beach is one of the most visited tourist areas in the capital. The beach is divided into seven areas, each with unique characteristics. They are Marina Ancol Beach, Bende Beach, Ancol Lagoon Beach, Ria Ancol Beach, Ancol Festival Beach, Ancol Carnival Beach, and Ancol Indah Beach.

Marina Ancol Beach is the most popular site among visitors and the main access to the Thousand Islands. Bende Beach, on the other hand, is a popular spot for watching the sunset, especially from the Love Bridge.

4. Mangrove Forest PIK 

Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area in North Jakarta also offers green places where visitors can walk through lush and serene mangrove forests on a wooden bridge. Visitors can also paddle through the waterways or roam the mangrove tunnels and take part in short courses to learn about mangrove plants.

5. Setu Babakan

Setu Babakan or Lake Babakan is a Betawi cultural village located in Srengseng Sawah, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, that aims to preserve Betawi art and culture. Visitors are allowed to go fishing in the lake or rent a boat to go around the lake while enjoying the cool breeze from the shady trees surrounding the lake.

6. Tabebuya Park

Situated on Jalan Moch Kahfi I, Ciganjur, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, Tabebuya Park is a spacious, picturesque garden area suitable for picnics. Visitors can bring along some snacks and relax under the shade of trees or feed fish in the lotus pond.

7. Taman Ria Rio Reservoir

Taman Ria Rio Reservoir is an urban park located in Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta. This place is perfect for city dwellers who want to escape and spend time with nature. Visitors can explore the park's natural beauty during the Christmas and New Year holidays and enjoy a serene escape.
