TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan or Zulhas responded to a statement by Cooperatives and SMEs Minister Teten Masduki, who lamented that the newly relaunched TikTok shop has not yet complied with existing regulations.
China-based social media platform TikTok recently relaunched TikTok Shop after partnering with homegrown e-commerce platform Tokopedia. However, it still facilitates direct transactions, violating the government’s ban on social media platforms offering direct transactions or social commerce.
Zulhas clarified that the Trade Ministry has given TikTok three to four months to conduct the transition of sales to Tokopedia. He also said that the ministry will monitor the case when the time is up.
“Later, it will be audited by parties who understand it, as I don't understand it,” he said when met at the Jakarta x Beauty Festival event at the JCC, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, Dec. 14.
Zulhas did not elaborate on the auditors, explaining why the ministry granted the transition period. "Our goal is for MSME players to participate in the onboarding through the platform," he said.
Fiki Satari, special staff to the Cooperatives and SMEs Minister, said that the ministry did not see any significant changes in the reopening of the TikTok Shop. He reminded TikTok to comply with government regulations not to combine social media with e-commerce and stressed that social media should only be used as a promotional tool.
