Dozens of Houses in Bogor Damaged After Sukabumi Earthquake

TEMPO.CO, Bogor - A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck Sukabumi this morning, Dec. 14, at 06:35 local time, jolting Cianjur, Bogor, and Depok. The tremors were quite strong in at least four districts in Bogor Regency, which are closest to the quake’s epicenter.
The Bogor Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that dozens of houses in the four sub-districts were damaged following the quake. They are Nanggung, Ciampea, Leuwiliang, and Pamijahan.
“At least 65 residents' houses were damaged,” the Bogor BPBD chief of the disaster prevention unit, Agus Suyatna, told Tempo on Thursday, Dec. 14.
He noted that three villages in Pamijahan, one village in Leuwiliang, one village in Nanggung, and two villages in Ciampea were affected by the quake. Most of the damaged houses are in Pamijahan and Leuwiliang.
“At least 20 houses in Purwabakti village and 10 houses in Cibunian village in Pamijahan were damaged. In Purasari village, Leuwiliang, 30 houses were damaged, and there are more damaged houses in other sub-districts. At present, the Bogor BPBD’s rapid response team is collecting data and visiting all affected locations while providing emergency logistical assistance,” Agus said.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) earlier confirmed that the earthquake in Sukabumi was at a depth of 5 kilometers, centered at 6.76 degrees South Latitude and 106.53 degrees East Longitude, or 25 kilometers northwest of Sukabumi Regency.
