TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially inaugurated the Among Tani Wholesale Market in Batu City, East Java, on Thursday, Dec. 14, claiming it to be the largest traditional market in Indonesia.

The three-story building of Among Tani Market occupies 3.4 hectares of land in Batu City. Its construction project started in 2021 and was financed by the State Budget amounting to Rp166 billion.
The market could accommodate 2,700 stalls and kiosks divided into the wet zone, dry zone, and the food or culinary zone.
The President said this market would be a clean, neatly arranged market with a large parking lot. “We hope that traders will be more in demand and more prosperous,” he said.
The market which has been in operation since October 2023 has a capacity of approximately 2,630 traders. At least 1,300 traders have occupied the stalls.
President Jokowi began his series of visits to East Java today. After leaving the Among Tani Market, he would move to Malang City to inaugurate three final disposal sites, visit vocational schools, and distribute direct cash assistance (BLT) and rice assistance in the region.
