TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Agency reported 131 additional cases of COVID-19 in the capital today, Dec. 13, bringing the total number of active infections thus far to 365.
Ngabila Salama, the agency’s head of the surveillance, epidemiology, and immunization unit, noted that there were 57 cases on December 11, and 127 more cases on the following day.
The number of cases rose again today by 131. “The rest [cases] are from last week,” she said on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Previously, Ngabila confirmed that the number of COVID-19 infections in the capital city tripled in early December 2023, with 271 new cases recorded between December 4 and 10. The agency also reported two deaths between December 1 and 10, both of them were women with comorbidities aged 81 and 91.
Although the infection trend is increasing, she called on the public not to panic but to stay vigilant. She mentioned that President Jokowi has lifted the pandemic status and declared it an endemic as of June 2023.
Ngabila also suggested that people continue to wear masks in crowded places or indoors for prolonged periods, when feeling unwell and interacting with vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
Ngabila further emphasized the importance of following the health protocols against COVID-19, such as washing hands, avoiding cigarette smoke, maintaining good air ventilation, and getting four doses of vaccines, as the virus is still contagious and poses a threat to vulnerable groups.
