TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU) confirmed that people with mental disorders or disabilities (ODGJ) have the same opportunities and rights as voters in the 2024 general elections. The agency will thus provide necessary services to help them cast a ballot without any hassle.
“Jakarta will provide services for ODGJ or people with mental disabilities to vote in the 2024 elections,” the Jakarta KPU spokesperson Fahmi Zikrillah said in Jakarta, on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
Fahmi explained that mentally ill people are allowed to vote so that their voting rights can be taken into account in the upcoming elections in February. There will also be assistance provided on the voting day.
Fahmi outlined that Bina Laras Social Home in East Jakarta is registered as a polling station or TPS. “There are voters undergoing treatment and rehabilitation for mental disorders in the TPS in Cipayung,” he said.
He detailed that there are 280 male voters in TPS 72, 118 male and 158 female voters in TPS 73, six male and 210 female voters in TPS 91, and 155 female voters in TPS 92.
Based on the KPU Jakarta data, there are 8,252,897 people registered in the Permanent Voter List (DPT) for the 2024 elections, and 61,747 of them are persons with disabilities, including 22,871 ODGJ.
The presidential election was scheduled to be held on February 14, 2024, simultaneously with the legislative election to elect members of the DPR, the provincial DPRD, the district/city DPRD, and the DPD. Meanwhile, the simultaneous regional head elections will take place later on November 27, 2024.
