6 Students Still Missing after Mount Marapi's Eruption

5 December 2023 08:48 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe joint search and rescue team managed to evacuate a total of eight students from the Padang State Polytechnic (PNP) following the eruption of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023. The PNP spokesperson Fajri Arianto confirmed that 14 students had gone hiking in a group on Dec. 2.

In addition to the PNP students, the group consisted of three students from other campuses and one parent of a PNP student. At present, 6 PNP students are still missing.

Out of eight evacuated students, six of them survived. Two students were admitted to the Padang Panjang Regional Hospital (RSUD), but one of them was transferred to the M. Djamil Hospital Padang due to burns of up to 70 percent.

“His condition was quite serious, so he was referred to [a hospital in Padang],” Fajri told Tempo on Monday evening, December 4.
