KPU Denies Breach of Voters' Personal Data

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Commission (KPU) chairman for the technical department, Idham Holik, confirmed today, Nov. 29, that all of the agency's information systems are protected and secure. His statement brushed off recent viral news about the voter data leaks.
“I believe that all KPU information systems are protected and safe,” Idham told Tempo on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
KPU data has once again become a target for hackers. Recently, a hacker named Jimbo claimed to have hacked the KPU's official website, kpu.go.id, and managed to obtain final voter data (DPT) stored on the site.
Idham stressed that hacking into information systems or websites is a criminal act. “Whoever does this will deal with law enforcement,” he said.
According to Idham, the KPU Data and Information Division together with the KPU Information Systems Cyber Security Task Force are currently checking or conducting digital footprint analysis of the system for any irregularities.
He recalled that a previous data breach committed by Bjorka turned out to be a hoax as the data published was not the personal information of voters in the 2019 and 2024 elections. All information systems managed by the KPU have also been certified by the Ministry of Communications and Information (Kominfo) and are protected by reliable firewalls.
