Indonesia Exports 2,000 Electric Motorbikes to Malaysia

28 November 2023 22:07 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian Retailers and Tenants Association (Hippindo) chairman Budihardjo Iduansjah said Indonesia has exported 2,000 units of electric motorbikes to Malaysia. These locally produced electric motorcycles, United, have arrived in the neighboring country.

“More brands will follow. The total [export] is 2,000 units for the first phase,” Budi said on the sidelines of the Inbuyer EV Expo 2023 at the Smesco Exhibition Hall, South Jakarta on Tuesday, November 28.

He also estimated that the export value would reach Rp80 billion. This marked the first time that automotive products made in Indonesia have been exported, so the export potential is wide open to other countries.

On the same occasion, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that Indonesia is committed to reducing carbon emissions by 358 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2030. Therefore, a roadmap for electric vehicles is crucial.

“The development of electric vehicles is crucial as investments continue to increase and sales of electric motorcycles are also on the rise,” Airlangga remarked.

He said the government has provided a number of incentives to support the growth of electric vehicles, including the conversion of conventional motorcycles to electric ones worth Rp7 million per unit.

“We hope that all MSMEs will become part of the electric vehicle ecosystem, especially electric motorbikes, and that they can become suppliers of electric motorbike components,” Airlangga said.
