TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sail Teluk Cenderawasih 2023 in Biak Namfor, Papua, is an event that embraces various aspects of Papua's rich maritime potential and tourism. The event showcased a series of diplomatic tours, business meetings, support for micro-small-medium-size enterprises (MSMEs), and performances of Papua's local art and cultures.
Therefore, Sail Teluk Cenderawasih offered a plethora of opportunities for business actors, travelers, and artists to promote and encourage the growth of Papua.
"I am happy that this morning I could come to this beautiful place. The peak of Sail Teluk Cenderawasih 2023 will introduce our marine potential, maritime potential, tourism potential, [and] our socio-culture potential," Jokowi said, quoted from the YouTube video uploaded to the Investment Ministry's channel.
Jokowi stressed that Indonesia is fundamentally a nation with a close relation to maritime aspects. In fact, he said, more than two-thirds of Indonesian territory is water.
The statement highlighted the importance of maritime potential in the frame of the nation's identity and resources, as well as the role of the sea in creating Indonesia's geographical characteristics.
This agenda, Jokowi said, will also boost the number of tourists, content creators, and investors on a bigger scale.
"I hope that the event could continue and increase creativity, innovation, community involvement, and MSMEs so that the people of Papua can experience the benefits after the event," Jokowi said in his opening remarks.
Lastly, President Jokowi also expressed his hopes that Papua's local products, cultures, dances, and music would be recognized, not only at the national level but also internationally. Thus, the president hoped that Sail Teluk Cenderawasih could become a platform to promote Papua's cultural heritage globally.
