Indonesia, World Bank Convene; Discusses Global Economic Situations

16 November 2023 10:34 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati met with World Bank's Managing Director for Operations Anne Bjerde in between APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) meetings in San Francisco, on November 13.

"Meeting Anne Bjerde, in between our activities during the Finance Ministers Meetings at APEC in San Francisco the day before yesterday," Sri Mulyani wrote in her official Instagram @smindrawati quoted on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

According to the state secretary, the meeting was unplanned. "But we decided to meet and share perspectives on the recent global economic situations," she said.

Anna, the finance minister said, hoped that the World Bank could contribute more, especially in tackling climate change and push for energy transition.

Meanwhile, Sri Mulyani explained the various challenges faced while establishing a public-private partnership to realize energy transition in Indonesia.

"We agreed that this is not an easy challenge. Glad to see and talk to you, Anna," Sri Mulyani said.

The minister also attended a series of Finance Minister Meetings at APEC in San Francisco with her colleagues from 21 country members of APEC. Sri Mulyani relayed several issues, especially concerning the global economic challenges that always grew in complexity. "One of which is the "higher for longer" policy that keeps increasing the risk of the fiscal position of several countries," she said.

She also mentioned that the policies concerning climate change must be responded to globally, with the purpose of mutual mitigation.

Massive requirements for funding during high interest rates, she said, also grew the potential of bigger pressure which will lead to an increase in funding toward developing countries, including Indonesia.

"While facing these global dynamics, I conveyed that welcoming a wise and well-done fiscal policy became critical," Sri Mulyani said.
