TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State electricity company PT PLN (Persero) has expressed its readiness to meet the need for public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations (SPKLU) in the new capital Nusantara (IKN) to realize a green and eco-friendly city.

As of September 2023, PLN has set up 2 charging stations in the new capital area in East Kalimantan.

"Because IKN will become a futuristic city, where all modes of transportation used must be environmentally friendly, we are ready to support the infrastructure needs for charging electric vehicles," PLN president director Darmawan Prasodjo said in a statement received from PLN on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

In the near future, PLN plans to add 5 ultra fast-charging mobile stations in the Government Core Area in Nusantara, including around the Presidential Palace, glamping area, construction workers' residences, and the Ceremony Plaza.

PLN will also build 19 new charging stations in Nusantara's core area by 2024.

Prasodjo said that to build an electric vehicle ecosystem in Nusantara, PLN will need to collaborate with several parties.

Therefore, the company is open to collaboration with various parties in providing charging station for cars and public electric vehicle battery swapping stations for motorcycles in the new capital.

"In addition to building SPKLUs independently, we will also collaborate with the owners of shopping centers, hospitals, and offices in IKN," Prasodjo informed.

PLN assured that in addition to the government core area in IKN, charging stations are available in the supporting cities of Nusantara, such as Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, and Samarinda, East Kalimantan.

Currently, there are 9 charging stations spread across East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan. The number is planned to be increased by 31 units by 2024.

PLN has expressed its readiness to support the government's seriousness in developing Nusantara with the concept of a forest city that is smart, green, beautiful, and environmentally friendly.
