TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in Purwakarta, West Java on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif mentioned that the maximum potential of this PLTS Cirata could reach 1.2 GWp if utilizing 20 percent of the total scale of the Cirata Dam.
"PLTS Cirata will become a showcase of energy transition acceleration in supporting achievements toward net zero emissions (NZE)," Arifin said in a press release received on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
According to Minister Arifin, PLTS Cirata will contribute 245 GWh each year to net zero emissions and reduce emissions by 214,000 tons each year.
Arifin also mentioned that the massive-scale solar plant will attract industries to manufacture PV solar materials. Thus, he hopes that Indonesia will be able to fully develop the raw materials to ensure 100 percent of domestic components.
PLTS Cirata is a joint project initiated as a result of collaboration between Indonesia and the UAE, involving PLN Nusantara Power and UAE's Masdar.
UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi mentioned that PLTS Cirata is a historical milestone for UAE to Indonesia and Southeast Asia. As the biggest Floating PLTS in Southeast Asia, Cirata will create a huge clean energy potential for Indonesia. He also hoped that Indonesia and the UAE will strive for more cooperation in the future.
