5 Cheapest Year-end Holiday Destinations in Asia, including in Japan, South Korea

1. Hat Yai, Thailand

Hat Yai tops the list of cheapest destinations for year-end travel in Asia, with an average hotel room price of US$43 or around Rp682.000. The province has a mix of urban and rural attractions, from great nightlife to the beautiful waterfalls at Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Reserve. For a more modern Christmas celebration, head to Hat Yai's Central Festival for the Christmas light show and giant tree.

2. Kuching, Malaysia

Kuching comes in second with an average room rate of US$60 or around Rp951.000. The capital of Sarawak, Malaysia, has been developing its tourism in recent years. Many attractions are available all year round, which gets even more festive during the Christmas season. There is an annual Christmas parade and tourists can stroll down Carpenter Street on New Year's Eve for festive celebrations.

3. Baguio, Philippines

With an average room rate of US$95 or around Rp1.5 million, Baguio City is in third place. The city is known as the summer capital of the Philippines for its cool temperatures. During the winter, the air temperature is even cooler. That is why many locals in this tropical country enjoy visiting Baguio City. 

Tourist attractions like Mines View Park and Camp John Hay are highly recommended and don't forget to start the morning with a local favorite drink called Taho, which is made of soft tofu and tiny pearls.

4. Nagoya, Japan
