TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno ensured that Bali is safe for tourists after Acting Bali Governor Mahendra Jaya released a statement of emergency over drought and wildfires in the province.

According to Sandiaga Uno, the emergency status was implemented for reasons of mitigation and response against the extreme drought and wildfires in Bali due to the El Nino phenomenon.

"Bali is still safe, flights are still normal [to and from Bali]," he said in a written statement as quoted on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bali Tourism Office Tjok Bagus Pemayun explained that the emergency status was issued on Thursday, October 19, 2023, by the Acting Governor of Bali.

The emergency status will be implemented from October 19 to November 1, 2023. However, it may be extended or shortened based on the necessity of the situation at hand, as provided in the Bali Governor's decision number 897/04-G/HK/2023.

Tjok Bagus also stressed that the situation in Bali is still manageable, and the emergency status was released as an anticipation of possible disaster. Tourism activities may proceed as normal, he concluded.
