Observer Urges INKA to Improve as 15 LRT Jabodebek Trainsets Need Repairs

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Transportation Society (MTI) chairman of the railway division, Aditya Dwi Laksana, assessed that state-owned train producer PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) must make improvements. He made the statement in response to the repair of 15 train sets of LRT Jabodebek, which resulted in the cancellation of 28 trips starting October 19, 2023.
Aditya said INKA should provide new fleets that are truly capable. “Don't let the wheels lump or problems with the drive system, and so on,” he told Tempo on Monday, October 23.
He questioned the train service which had only been in operation for two months but already had components that needed repair and maintenance.
Aditya suspected that there were problems with components or facilities that were not yet reliable or components of the facilities that were not in prime condition.
Looking at this incident, he argued that people might be sensitive about the train fare. But that might not be the case if there are other benefits, such as more trips, shorter train headways, and longer operating hours, for example, from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m.
“[LRT Jabodebek is] like the KRL (Commuter Line) because it [operates reaching] suburban areas, unlike the MRT [which operates] in urban areas,” said Aditya.
