TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Head of the Jakarta Health Agency, Ani Ruspitawati, disclosed several typical symptoms of monkeypox or mpox. They include fever, bone and muscle pain, water blisters or skin rash, and swollen lymph nodes in the armpits, neck, or groin.
“For this reason, avoid direct skin contact with monkeypox patients who have a skin rash or fluid-filled sacs on their skin,” Ani said in a press statement on Monday, October 23, 2023.
According to her, mpox sufferers must undergo proper isolation until they fully recover. People experiencing the symptoms of the viral disease are urged to immediately visit the nearest health facility for a laboratory examination.
“People who have been in close contact with positive cases are expected to report immediately for early detection and treatment,” she added.
As a precautionary measure, Ani stressed that the public can actively report health problems in their area that require special treatment and attention through health workers, local community health centers or Puskesmas, or complaint channels provided by the Jakarta Health Agency.
As of Sunday, October 22, the Jakarta Health Agency had identified seven confirmed cases of mpox in the city.
Confirmed cases of monkeypox worldwide have reached 91,123 cases in 115 countries, with a total of 157 deaths. The countries that reported the most cases in September 2023 were China (365 cases), Thailand (144 cases), Portugal (86 cases), and the United States (72 cases).
