TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) chairman Kaesang Pangarep made yet another impromptu visit, known locally as blusukan. Today, the youngest son of President Jokowi visited Kebayoran Lama Market in South Jakarta.
Traders at the traditional market welcomed his arrival. Some traders and visitors asked him to take selfies.
After touring the market, Kaesang accompanied by PSI Advisory Board member Isyana Bagoes Oka held a dialogue with representatives of the traders. They asked for a relocation.
“One of the issues here is the market relocation. We can see that many vendors are selling on the roadside. They are hoping to get a much more comfortable place to sell,” Kaesang said at Kebayoran Lama Market on Friday, October 20, 2023.
He said relocating a large number of traders would require extra effort, especially given the very limited land in the capital city. “Earlier, I suggested that this market be renovated.”
The traders accepted the idea, which would then be submitted to the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) for follow-up.
One of the traders said his sales were declining due to intense competition with online traders. “We have to understand that times are changing. From PSI, we will try to find a solution. Perhaps, we can create an app for merchants to conduct online sales as well,” Kaesang added.
On September 27, Kaesang visited the Pluit Reservoir in Penjaringan, North Jakarta. Accompanied by his wife, Erina Gudono, he handed over aid to children at the Pluit Reservoir Learning House.
Regarding his blusukan agenda in the capital, Kaesang denied that he intended to run in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. He said that PSI would support young and nationalist figures to lead the city.
