TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Feeling overwhelmed is a psychological condition that will prevent someone from thinking clearly to finish their tasks or certain activities. Feeling overwhelmed is caused by stress, shocking events, or deteriorating mental health. Citing WebMD, overwhelmed is caused by excessive workload or personal conflicts with family and friends, as well as financial problems and physical health.

Quoted from Verywell Health, there are several symptoms as a sign of feeling overwhelmed. Below are the signs you may be feeling overwhelmed.

1. Irrational thinking

Feeling overwhelmed will lower the ability of someone when facing a problem, causing them to think irrationally.

2. Procrastinating

Somebody who is feeling overwhelmed often procrastinates to avoid the tasks that stress them out.

3. Unusual reaction

Those who are feeling overwhelmed will overreact to the smallest stress trigger. For example, excessive panic when they are losing a house key, despite not checking thoroughly.

4. Avoidant to friends and family

Due to feeling like friends and family are unable to help or understand the situation they're in, people who are feeling overwhelmed are often avoiding those closest to them.

5. Pessimistic

Feeling pessimistic and hopeless is a general symptom of overwhelmedness, where someone is feeling powerless in the face of a situation. 

6. Change of regular moods

Someone who is feeling overwhelmed is quick to anger, feeling offended, anxious, and near tears all the time.

7. Cognitive exhaustion

People with this condition will often feel confused and have difficulty concentrating. This will lead to difficulty in making a decision or resolving a problem.

8. Physical symptoms

Overwhelmed people are at risk of experiencing physical symptoms such as heart palpitations, difficulty breathing, dizziness, exhaustion, cramps, stomachache, and other aches.
