TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir highlighted the increase in audience for the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2023, better known as MotoGP Mandalika. The ministry recorded that the total live audience for three days from Friday to Sunday reached 102,929. The biggest number recorded was for the match on Sunday, October 15, with 73,129 people in the audience.
The number was bigger than the 102,801 audience recorded for last year's MotoGP Mandalika. "This marked that the market for a race has been mapped. From the market of the audience coming from Jakarta, East Java, Bali, or even Lombok," he said in a written statement on Sunday evening.
This has to be studied by the MotoGP organizers to improve the event for the coming years. He also urged the organizers to create other events aside of the race.
"The additional side events will not only bring more audience but with MSMEs exhibitions or other events in the same vein that will improve the attraction for domestic and foreign tourists will create a multiplier effect for the surrounding society," he said.
The minister also welcomed collaborations and synergies with SOEs such as Injourney, ITDC, and Pertamina. According to Erich Thohir, these collaborations contributed to the success of MotoGP Mandalika this year.
"I'm optimistic that MotoGP Mandalika 2023 will bring a wider multiplier effect," he added.
Erick Thohir mentioned that the national economic impact of MotoGP Mandalika last year reached Rp3.57 trillion from NTB, Rp300 billion from Jakarta, and Rp626.3 billion from several other regions.
"The number must increase this year," he said.
