AIS Forum Inks 7 Agreement on First Day of Summit

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Archipelagic and Island States or AIS Forum Summit is currently being held in Bali, participated by 30 archipelagic and island states representatives and three international organizations. On its first day, the forum successfully inked server agreements.
Lead by Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, the fifth AIS Forum Summit on October 10, 2023, is intended to hear the reports on the seventh senior officials meeting in Fiji, the eighth senior officials meeting in Madagascar, the drafting of Leaders' Declaration, and prepares for tomorrow's summit.
The seven agreements reached today include the document of road map for decarbonization in the tourism sector, the document of blue carbon emissions profile, the letter of intent (LOI) on maritime cooperation between Indonesia and Timor-Leste, the LOI on joint research involving the University of Malta, and the document of cooperation in the development of AIS Forum's Center for Research and Development at the Imperial College of London.
Also signed during the forum was the MoU between Indonesia's UNPAD and IPB and Madagascar's University of Toliara, and an LOI on joint strategic programs between the AIS Forum and the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
During the summit, Retno Marsudi also met with the Vice PM of Tonga and the Vice PM of Fiji to discuss cooperation in the context of bilateral, AIS, and region.
Minister Retno also scheduled a meeting with representatives of Papua New Guinea, Cape Verde, and Solomon Islands. She stated that the result of today's summit meeting will be brought on the last day of the summit on October 11.
The summit tomorrow will be led by President Jokowi to discuss the Leaders' Declaration draft between AIS Forum members.
