Indonesia to Evacuate Ten Citizens in Gaza Strip

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry called on its citizens currently in the Palestinian and Israeli territories to remain vigilant amid the escalating conflict in the Gaza Strip. Based on the latest data, there are 45 Indonesians in Palestine, with 10 in the Gaza Strip and 35 in the West Bank. Meanwhile, there are also 230 Indonesians engaged in religious tourism in various parts of Israel.
Initially, 13 Indonesians were registered in the Gaza Strip, but three of them have left the area for Egypt and Indonesia.
To date, the Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed that no Indonesian citizens have fallen victim. “The Foreign Affairs Ministry continues to closely coordinate with the Indonesian Embassy in Amman, the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, and the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut to monitor the situation in Palestine and prepare contingency plans. Evacuation is one part of the contingency plan,” Iqbal said in a press statement, on Tuesday, October 10.
The ministry urged Indonesian citizens in Palestine and Israel to be vigilant and stay in contact with Indonesian representatives. Those who have plans to visit these two regions are advised to postpone it until further notice.
“Considering the latest security situation and for the safety of Indonesian citizens, the Indonesian government urges citizens residing in the Palestinian or Israeli territories to immediately leave these areas,” Iqbal stressed.
Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said the government was working on the evacuation of citizens living in Palestine and Israel. Prabowo made this statement after participating in the Twilight Parade at the National Defense Field, Ministry of Defense, Central Jakarta.
“We are working on the evacuation,” Prabowo said at the Ministry of Defense Office, on Monday evening, October 9, 2023.
