TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian top official Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan was reportedly ill and undergoing medical treatment. His spokesperson, Jodi Mahardi, revealed the latest developments in Luhut's condition. “His condition is improving,” Jodi said in a press statement on Monday, October 9, 2023.
However, Jodi refused to clarify when asked whether Luhut still needed to be hospitalized or not. He hoped that Luhut would be able to resume his normal activities soon.
At the end of last week, Jodi denied the news that Luhut had been rushed to a hospital in Singapore. He said Luhut was in Jakarta and in good condition.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno also confirmed that Luhut's condition continued to improve.
“Alhamdulillah, I just received the news that he is gradually recovering,” he said after attending a limited meeting in Jakarta, on Monday, October 9, 2023.
Sandiaga explained that Luhut was treated for fatigue because the latter was preparing to hold the Archipelagic and Island State or AIS Forum 2023 Summit, which was scheduled to be held in Nusa Dua, Bali, on October 10-11, 2023.
“And [he just returned from] a safari visit to Africa, which was followed by other activities,” Sandiaga said.
The 76-year-old man is one of the busiest ministers in President Jokowi's cabinet as he is entrusted with many positions.
Aside from being the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Luhut is the head of the AIS Forum Summit. He was also appointed to lead the handling of Jakarta’s air pollution on August 28, 2023.
Luhut's other position is the head of the Indonesia-Papua New Guinea Downstream Task Force established by President Jokowi. This was announced on his official Instagram on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
