Police Probe 6 Witnesses in Alleged Extortion Case by KPK Leaders against Syahrul Yasin Limpo

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Jaya Police investigated six people in the alleged case of extortion by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leaders against Syahrul Yasin Limpo, the Agriculture Minister who has recently stepped down from President Jokowi's cabinet.
“After the issuance of the investigation order dated August 21, 2023, the investigator started summoning six people for clarification,” Jakarta Police’s Director of Special Criminal Investigation, Sr. Comr. Ade Safri Simanjuntak, said at a press conference, on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Ade explained that the six people included the former minister, his driver, and his aide.
Ade refused to elaborate on the case. “Because this is an ongoing investigation process and is still in progress. We will update later,” he said.
According to him, the report of the alleged extortion was received on August 12, 2023, through a public complaint (Dumas).
The report noted that the KPK leaders committed extortion against the former minister in connection with the alleged corruption case in 2022. However, Ade who is the former Surakarta Police Chief declined to disclose names of the anti-graft body leaders accused in the case.
Syahrul Yasin Limpo submitted a letter of resignation as Minister of Agriculture in the Jokowi’s Indonesia Onward Cabinet to Minister of State Secretary Pratikno at the Merdeka Palace on Thursday afternoon, October 5, 2023, following the legal process in an alleged corruption case ensnaring the former.
