Syahrul Yasin Limpo Arrives in Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo arrived in Jakarta this evening, Oct. 4, following a working visit to a number of European countries. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesperson, Ali Fikri, said his side has not yet scheduled a summons for the minister, who is allegedly involved in an alleged gratification case.
“We will announce the schedule for summoning the agriculture minister later. Just wait for the schedule. Similar to the summoning of three witnesses today, we will also announce who will be summoned that day in the morning,” Ali said in a press statement, on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
Syahrul was confirmed to have arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport at around 6:18 p.m. Jakarta time boarding Singapore Airlines with flight number SQ964.
The NasDem Party politician was reported to have disappeared as he did not return to Indonesia as originally scheduled on Oct. 1. The party’s treasurer, Ahmad Sahroni, claimed that Syahrul had to stay longer in Europe to treat his prostate problems and assured that the minister would eventually return to Indonesia.
Ali Fikri further confirmed that the anti-graft body searched the private house of Syahrul and his children in Makassar, South Sulawesi, today. “The investigation team continued its search in Makassar,” he said.
According to him, the search was aimed at collecting evidence regarding a corruption case within the Ministry of Agriculture.
Earlier reported, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said the KPK had long named Syahrul a suspect. However, the KPK has not made the announcement to date.
The NasDem Party chair Surya Paloh gathered a number of high-ranking party officials at the NasDem Tower this evening. Reports also suggested that Surya would meet Syahrul Yasin Limpo regarding the alleged gratification case.
