TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Health Office said that the residents of Jakarta who contracted acute respiratory infection (ISPA) are able to enjoy free healthcare with state-operated social health insurance from the Social Health Insurance Administration Body (BPJS).
"[The treatment] is free, since it's from BPJS. A number of 98% of Jakartans already have BPJS insurance," said the Acting Head of Jakarta Health Office Ani Ruspitawati as quoted by Antara on Thursday, September 14, 2023.
According to Ani, the number of ISPA patients is still fluctuating. However, public awareness to seek treatment at hospitals or public health centers is on the rise amidst the worsening air pollution problem.
"The awareness is caused by the government's campaign intensification, [the government campaigned that] people who are experiencing discomfort could go to any health facilities for swift treatment," she said. Therefore, she hopes that people with any health complaints could go to hospitals or public health centers as a form of prevention.
Jakarta Health Office operates 44 public health centers and 31 regional hospitals across the province that are open 24 hours and will take swift action for people with health problems caused by air pollution.
Previously, the Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono mentioned that the rising number of ISPA cases, especially in toddlers are still manageable to be treated in public health centers. According to the data at hand, he said, the increase of ISPA in Jakartan toddlers ranges from 24 to 31 percent. Therefore, Heru Budi recommends that residents, especially toddlers, wear masks while doing outdoor activities.
