TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno invited a number of airlines from ASEAN member countries to open a direct flight route to Indonesia.
"Two days ago I attended [the opening of] a direct flight from Hanoi to Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City to Jakarta and Denpasar before that, [and] I invite more airlines to open a direct flight to Indonesia. Jakarta and Bali as the centers of ASEAN but also other destinations [in Indonesia]. The dialogue with Laos and Cambodia [was for them] to increase direct flights in Indonesia," he said in an official statement on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
Sandiaga Uno explained that Indonesia has added more direct flights from Vietnam to Indonesia. According to Sandiaga, a direct flight from Hanoi to Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City to Jakarta, and Ho Chi Minh City to Denpasar will prompt more South Korean tourists to visit Indonesia.
According to the survey done by the ASEAN-Korea Center in 2022 involving 1,000 respondents, South Korean tourists often visit Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. Hopefully, Sandiaga said, by opening a direct flight from Vietnam, more South Korean tourists continue their trip to Indonesia.
In addition, Sandiaga also revealed that ASEAN tourists are interested in visiting Bali and Yogyakarta. "For example, Laos and Cambodia, so more direct flights from both countries have to increase," he said.
The ministry targets 8.5 million foreign visits to Indonesia in 2023. The target increased by 1.1 million compared to the initial target at the beginning of 2023.
