TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The engine of the motorboat (KM) Sangaji owned by the Jakarta Transportation Service died as it ran out of fuel in the waters of the Thousand Islands, Jakarta, Thursday afternoon. Twenty-four passengers had to be evacuated to another boat.
"It was a passenger ship operated by the Transportation Agency, the name is KM Sangaji," Marulitua Sijuang, executive secretary of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said in Jakarta, Thursday, September 7, ANTARA reported.
Marulitua said that KM Sangaji was sailing from Tidung Island to Muara Angke Harbor. "It ran into trouble around the Thousand Island," he said.
The boat was carrying dozens of passengers who had just finished their vacation and were about to return to the Muara Angke pier, North Jakarta. He said the ship broke down at 2:16 p.m. in the waters near Pulau Bidadari.
Twenty-four passengers from KM Sangaji were transferred to another boat, KM Kemala, which was sailing towards Muara Angke Harbor.
Marulita said there were no victims from the KM Sangaji strike incident. "All passengers and crew have arrived at Muara Angke safely," he said.
