TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Banten Police's Directorate of Water and Air Police said that the number of people suffering from shortness of breath following the fire at KMP Mutiara Berkah I boat has increased to 14. The boat thought to belong to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, caught fire on Wednesday morning, September 6.
"To date, there are 14 victims of the fire who are experiencing respiratory problems. One of the victims suffered minor injuries to the sole of his right foot," Sr. Comr. Pol Andree Gama Putra said on Thursday.
Andree said the passengers who experienced shortness of breath are now in medical care, four at Krakatau Medica Hospital and 10 at Taman Sari Merak Health Center.
The KMP Mutiara Berkah I caught fire at Jetty 1 of Pelabuhan Indah Kiat, Merak, Cilegon. The boat was supposed to transport passengers to Lampung's Pelabuhan Panjang at 10:00. There were no casualties in the incident.
Andree Gama Putra said that according to information from passengers, the fire was detected after the ramp door was closed, and an explosion was heard.
The police are still carrying out investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
As of Thursday noon, the boar is already in a leaning position and is still on fire. "The fire brigade is still trying to extinguish it," Andree said.
