TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan recounted the moment he took a test ride on the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway with China’s Premier Li Qiang. According to Luhut, Li was delighted to join the test run.
“Li Qiang is very happy with this test. He tested it for 11 minutes to Karawang Station and returned to Halim Station,” Luhut said after the ride at Halim Station, East Jakarta, on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
Li is in Jakarta for talks with leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN and other countries.
On the bullet train, Luhut said he had many discussions related to the national flagship project of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi. Luhut also praised the quality of the project developed by the China-Indonesia consortium PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC). “It is indeed of high quality.”
Before the trial run, Luhut and Li were greeted by dozens of KCIC employees in ivory-white uniforms who lined up in front of the Halim Station building waving Indonesian and Chinese flags.
Luhut and Li were also seen chatting over the large pictures of the project installed on the right side of the red carpet before the train departed.
The high-speed train left at 15:58 Jakarta time to Karawang Station and returned to Halim Station at around 16:40 Jakarta time.
On August 12, Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said in an interview with Reuters that the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train will be commercially launched on October 1, 2023.
