TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The official YouTube Channel of the House of Representatives (DPR) was allegedly hacked after a sudden livestream of an online gambling slot this morning, Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
According to Tempo's search, at 08:30 a.m. today, the profile picture of DPR's YouTube channel had been changed to online gambling and was seen live streaming a Japanese online slot game.
There is no official statement from the Secretariat General of DPR on the current situation.
Previously, the Chief of National Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stressed that his institution will take firm actions against online gambling practices. The police claimed to have cracked down on 685 cases of online gambling in Indonesia.
"The buttons of these websites are at the hand of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics. The police's duty is to cooperate. Inform us of the [online gambling] case and we will handle it," Sigit said on September 1, 2023, in Jakarta.
Meanwhile, the Director of Cybercrime at the Police Criminal Investigation Agency Brigadier General Adi Vivid Agustiadi Bachtiar said the institution has arrested 866 online gamblers, with 760 people arrested in 2022 while the rest 106 people were arrested in 2023.
In addition, Vivid emphasized that the police also frequently request for the ministry to block any gambling sites discovered by the cyber patrols.
"Throughout 2022, we have requested [for the suspension] of 401 sites, and in 2023 it increased to 513 sites," he said.
