TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy for Finance and Investment of Indonesia’s New Capital of Nusantara or IKN Authority, Agung Wicaksono, believed that IKN would become an interactive city for ASEAN. “IKN has the potential to be a link across ASEAN in Kalimantan, Sabah-Sarawak, and Brunei Darussalam,” he said in Jakarta, Monday, September 4, 2023.
Agung explained that the new capital would not only be limited to being the administrative center of the country but would also create an ecosystem that would adopt the 'tri-city' concept, namely Samarinda, Balikpapan, and IKN.
Thus, the government remained committed to the development of IKN, as evidenced by the issuance of regulations on capital transfer and investment incentives.
The incentives will be given to the development projects in 12 fundamental sectors, namely renewable energy, telecommunication networks, transportation, housing, water management, waste management, technology infrastructure sector, commercial infrastructure, health facilities, social and public facilities, educational facilities, and green industrial areas.
Moreover, Agung emphasized that the commitment to develop IKN is not only upheld by the current administration but also by the future leaders after the upcoming election. As a result, a lot of investors were interested in participating in the projects.
Among the investors are Malaysia-based IJM Maxim which invested in 30 residential towers through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme, Singapore’s Joe Green Panel in the waste management sector, and Singapore-based company SPIC in the renewable energy sector.
Nusantara as the future capital city of Indonesia was designated and regulated by Law No. 3 of 2022. Located on the east coast of Kalimantan Island with an area of approximately 256,142 hectares or nearly four times the size of Jakarta, IKN was expected to promote Indonesia-centric development and speed up the country's economic transformation.
