TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Widodo alias Jokowi appreciated the support and contributions of ASEAN countries and partners in implementing 93 cooperative projects worth US$38.2 billion.
“This reflects our commitment to build a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific,” he said in his opening remarks at the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum at Hotel Mulia Jakarta on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
Apart from that, he mentioned 73 potential projects with a total value of US$17.8 billion. The Indonesian President also called for further collaboration among ASEAN states in order to address global challenges, especially amid heightened geopolitical rivalries in the Indo-Pacific.
With a population of 680 million people, he believed that ASEAN is a potential market with promising investment opportunities. For this reason, the Asian Indo-Pacific Forum would focus on the three main agendas.
First, green infrastructure and a resilient supply chain. Jokowi said the ASEAN economy will grow stronger through downstream industries and the development of an electric vehicle ecosystem. One of the concrete measures is to build a regional supply chain.
Secondly, sustainable and innovative financing. ASEAN requires US$29.4 trillion for the energy transition and innovative financing schemes through profitable and sustainable partnerships.
The third agenda is digital transformation and creative economy. ASEAN’s digital economy was estimated to grow to US$1 trillion in 2030. Jokowi recognized the need to strengthen the adoption of digital innovation to boost the creative economy and MSMEs.
