Fishing Vessels Caught Fire in Muara Baru

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - North Jakarta Fire Management and Rescue officers extinguished the flames engulfing at least nine fishing vessels at the west of Muara Baru Nizam Zachman Ocean Fisheries Port on Tuesday at dawn.
"We received a fire alert on Monday evening at 23:48 p.m. and five minutes later we deployed around 17 units and their supporting facilities heading to the harbor," said EkoMahendro, one of the officers in Jakarta, on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, quoted from Antara.
The cause of the fire has not been discovered. Initially, there were only two vessels that caught fire, but it spread swiftly to four other vessels and two more before the officers arrived and put out the flames.
"Nine vessels were burned. The fire also licked at the fish auction building. However, [the officers] were able to isolate the fire and the Syahbandar office was far from the spreading flames," Eko said.
After no less than two hours, the officers we able to completely put out the fire at around 01:55 a.m.
Eko explained that the officers had to pull other vessels away from the location to avoid being engulfed in the fire.
There are no reports of casualties in this incident. The sectoral police of Sunda Kelapa and the resort police of Tanjung Priok Harbor are investigating the case.
