LRT Jabodebek Breaks Down, Forces Passengers to Be Evacuated

30 August 2023 10:39 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Passengers of Light Rail Transit or LRT Jabodebek departing from Bekasi were evacuated this morning, August 30, due to a problem with the train. Passengers were asked to leave the train five minutes after departure.

“I took the train from Jatimulya and was asked to get off at Cikunir 2,” a passenger Devina Amelia said this morning.

The train experienced a technical problem at the door. The passengers were then evacuated and transferred to another train series. “We waited 40 minutes for the new train to arrive,” she added.

She explained that the newly-launched train departed from Jatimulya Station at around 7:05 a.m. and five minutes later, all passengers were dropped off at the next three stations, Cikunir 2 Station.

“There are more and more passengers [at Cikunir 2 Station]. We boarded the train again at 8 a.m. but the train stayed still,” Devina said, claiming that she wanted to try LRT Jabodebek to shorten the travel time to work but it turned out that she lost more time.

The train operator has not yet confirmed the breakdown.

On the second day of operation, August 29, the train operator apologized for the delay in the journey via its Instagram @lrtjabodebek at 10:51 p.m. “LRT Jabodebek continues to work on fixing some of the existing shortcomings that cause inconvenience.”

LRT Jabodebek was inaugurated by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Monday, August 28, 2023. The fare was set to start from Rp7,100 to Rp27,400 for the farthest route with the promised train waiting time of 20 minutes.
