Top 3 News of the Week: Jakarta to Spray Water from Top of Buildings, Australia Sends 200,000 Rabies Vaccines to Bali

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTempo English compiled three popular or top 3 news on the platform this week, starting from Monday, August 21, 2023 until Sunday, August 27, 2023. Those include Jakarta government to spray water from top of buildings, Australia sends 200,000 doses of additional rabies vaccine to Bali, and Environmental Ministry halts operations of four companies due to air pollution.

1. Artificial Rain Unsuccessful, Jakarta Govt Plans to Spray Water from Top of Buildings

Head of Jakarta Environmental Department Asep Kuswanto revealed the plan formulated by the BMKG and BRIN to install generators at the top of several buildings in Jakarta. The government plans to spray water from the top of buildings as part of the effort to reduce air pollution in Jakarta.

Previously, Asep said that weather modification technology is difficult to implement in Jakarta as clouds are sparse, as proven by unsuccessful attempts. The first attempt at artificial rain only managed to create a light rain outside of Jakarta.

2. Australia Sends 200,000 Doses of Additional Rabies Vaccine to Bali

Bali received 200,000 doses of rabies vaccine from the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

The 200,000 doses of rabies vaccine from Australia to Bali is part of the total 400,000 doses that were granted to Indonesia.

3. Air Pollution: Environmental Ministry Halts Operation of 4 Companies

The Environmental and Forestry Ministry is halting the operation of four companies indicated as the cause of air pollution in Greater Jakarta.

The ministry Director of Law Enforcement, Rasio Ridho Sani said that the ministry is focusing on surveilling activities that have the potential of PM2.5 pollution. "If during the surveillance [the ministry] found another violation, we will also take action," said Rasio during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
