1. Indonesia is Preparing Nuclear Power Plant Development Strategy, Says BRIN

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is currently preparing a strategy for the development of nuclear power plants in Indonesia.

"One that can also provide a very stable supply of electricity, which can then have a fairly long life, is nuclear energy," Deputy for Development Policy at BRIN,l Mego Pinandito said on Monday, August 21, 2023.

The government has discussed nuclear technology as one of the sources of new and renewable energy, he noted.

According to him, currently, his side is preparing all the necessary things such as human resources, technological capabilities, and zoning for nuclear energy development.

2. Indonesia to Get Cracking on Air Pollution Offenders

The Indonesian Environment and Forestry Ministry (KLHK) stated on Monday, August 21, 2023, that it is preparing to take action against air pollution offenders in the Greater Jakarta area, which includes Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

"Our ultimate goal is to ensure that everyone has the right to a quality and healthy environment, including the right to clean and healthy air quality," said Rasio Ridho Sani, the Director General of Environmental and Forestry Law Enforcement at KLHK.

3. Govt Monitors Coal Power Plants Behind Jakarta Air Pollution

Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) deployed 100 personnel to oversee various sources of air pollution in the Greater Jakarta area.

Led by the Director General of Environmental and Forestry Law Enforcement, the personnel would directly supervise pollution sources, such as coal-fired power plants (PLTU), diesel-fueled power plants (PLTD), industrial factories, waste incineration, and electronic waste.

“This monitoring is initiated in the event of law enforcement against air pollution in Jabodetabek [Greater Jakarta],” the KLHK spokesperson Nunu Anugrah said in a press release published on the ministry’s website today, August 21, 2023.
