TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's counterterrorism force, Densus 88, arrested a suspected terrorist and alleged employee of PT KAI, the Indonesian railway's company, in North Bekasi, Bekasi City, West Java, on Monday, August 14, 2023.
Densus 88 spokesperson, Chief Commissioner Aswin Siregar confirmed the arrest. "The status and occupation (of the suspect) are still being examined," he said when called on Monday, August 14, 2023.
The Head of Public Information of the National Police Public Relations Division Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan also confirmed the arrest. Ramadhan named the suspect as D.E., which was arrested by Densus 88 in his residence in Bulak Sentul, Harapan Jaya, North Bekasi, Bekasi City, at 13:17 p.m.
"D.E. is an ISIS supporter active in spreading its propaganda on social media by advocating for jihad (Islamic idea of fighting for the religion) and calling for unity for jihad purposes on Facebook," said Ramadhan.
Ramadhan said D.E. had a role to send Facebook posts in the form of digital posters of baiat (pledge of allegiance to ISIS) renewal in Bahasa Indonesia and Arabic to the leader of ISIS, Abu Al Husain Al Husaini Al Quraysi. "He is also allegedly involved in fundraising and owned self-made firearms," said Ramadhan.
In addition, D.E. is also the moderator for several ISIS Telegram channels. The channels are updates on ISIS' global terror translated into Bahasa Indonesia. After arresting D.E., Densus 88 also raided his house and conducted an interrogation.
