TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan is aiming to have Borobudur Temple be one of the country's biggest revenue sources, with the target of two million visitors per year.
"Borobudur became one of the destinations that attract (many tourists)," he noted while leading the national coordination meeting on development acceleration of the five super priority tourism destinations at Plataran Borobudur Hotel, Magelang, Central Java, Friday, July 21, 2023.
Through a written statement on Saturday, he also underlined that the development of super priority tourism destinations should take into account all aspects, including its beauty.
For instance, cables for the purpose of internet or telecommunication network should be buried underground to make the location tidier, he remarked.
He also stressed the importance of considering the aspect of local wisdom.

The entirety of the efforts to develop the five destinations into quality tourism destinations should be ensured to be able to be completed by 2024.
In response to Pandjaitan's instruction, Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Minister/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Head Hadi Tjahjanto said he will work with regional governments to determine proper spatial planning that includes the provision of internet or telecommunication network that must be buried.
Moreover, Tjahjanto's ministry will restrict the construction of buildings that may reduce the beauty of tourism locations that became the government's priorities throughout this time.
