TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono disclosed the latest developments in the construction of the access road on the east side of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). He said that the project, which is part of the stadium renovation, is nearly complete.
“[The work] being done by Bina Marga Agency is almost complete, leaving only [the work] for JMP (PT Jasa Marga Properti) to connect [the access road] to the toll road,” Heru said at the Kampung Rambutan 2 Reservoir, Ciracas District, East Jakarta, on Friday, July 21, 2023.
Previously, Heru along with Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono and the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) chairperson Erick Thohir visited the country’s largest stadium to prepare the venue for the 2023 U-17 World Cup, which is slated to be held this November-December.
After conducting the inspection, the government agreed to renovate JIS before being proposed to serve the international youth tournament because a number of facilities, such as the access and grass fields, did not meet the standards of the World Football Federation (FIFA).
The Jakarta provincial government through the Bina Marga Agency would open access to the east side of JIS. The PUPR Ministry would widen the existing entrance gate which is currently the only access to the stadium and replace the grass field with a budget of around Rp6 billion.
As the management of the stadium with a capacity of 82,000 spectators, Jakarta-owned property developer PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) was also involved in the revamp project. “We invited [Jakpro] to discussions as well,” the acting governor added.
However, Heru Budi refused to reveal the target for the completion of JIS' eastern access. The man who also serves as the Presidential Secretariat head claimed the revamp project will be wrapped up before the U-17 World Cup.
