TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian government will hold the Archipelagic and Island States Forum (AIS Forum) on October 10-11, 2023 in Bali. The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs stated that the event will be participated by 51 state members of the Ais Forum.
"The forum was established to encourage collaboration between archipelagic and island states all around the world to face challenges and problems together, especially concerning the marine development sector, climate change mitigation, and sea pollution countermeasures," said the ministry's Secretary Ayodhia G. L. Kalake during a press conference in Menteng Area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
He explained that the Ais Forum Summit is the mandate from the 4th ministerial meeting of the AIS Forum held in Bali, on December 5, 2022. This year's Summit will be held on October 11, 2023, in Bali following the ministerial meeting of the AIS Forum on October 10, 2023. "The Summit will be held in Nusa Dua Bali, and we will invite 51 state members to participate," he said. "Hopefully all state leaders will participate."
Meanwhile, the Assistant Deputyship of Maritime Zone and Border Delimitation of the Ministry Sora Lokita said that challenges faced by archipelagic and island states are similar, such as connectivity and climate change. So there is no other way than to cooperate with each other. "What's the difference between AIS Forum and initiatives like other forums? AIS is not all talk, we implement concrete ideas," said Oki. Oki pointed out the cage training in Fiji. Even if it was deemed trivial in Indonesia, the training was the first one in all of the Pacific.
